Mathematics & Numeracy
At Rowandale, mathematics and numeracy are taught using a wide range of concepts and approaches to give children experience in both the development of mathematical techniques and an understanding of how these techniques apply in real life situations.
In foundation stage, children are able to gain an understanding of mathematical concepts such as sorting, matching, comparing and pattern making. Mathematical language is taught to help the children discuss their work.
In Key stages 1 and 2, children are encouraged to engage with mathematics through activities such as play, investigation, drafting, reading and asking questions. Real life tasks are used to allow the children to understand mathematics in context and show them how it can effect real life decision making.
